New York state of mind

Spent last weekend in New York city. I just happened to pass this mode of transportation while walking through SoHo.
I'm a Westerner, but I truly enjoyed the energy of the city. Within a few miles of any place in Manhattan, you can find many different modes of transportation.
I enjoyed the subways, even the buses were a nice change. The Staten Island ferry just seems like a wonderful way to go to work.
I live in the part of the country that lives and dies by the automobile. Seeing people walking was.... a very nice change of pace. Speaking of pace, I loved the pace of the city. I walked more in three days than I have this year. My doctor would love that!.

It's all about the light

This is a very poorly composed photo, my intent was to take photos just after sunset using off-camera flash. It was spur of the moment as all weekend I was, and still am, grappling with my allergies. Man, it is hard to look thru a viewfinder when all you'd like to do is rip your eyeballs out and rinse them under a water faucet.
Anyway, this photo I used the wrong lens 70-210 f4-5.6 Push-Pull, and the setup was whack as the camera was above my head. Well, that was just done on the spur of the moment... you get what you put into it.
I'm going to participate in "Strobist.com" online workshop LIGHTING 102.
Strobist is a site dedicated to "off camera flash" and is authored by premier photographer David Hobby.
He is putting on a workshop which will challenge, educate and hopefully inspire the use of off camera flash. My goal is to become comfortable with mixed light and expanding the way I see.... LIGHT
At any rate, I hope to not only improve my eye, I hope to improve my blogging. I have made more than one attempt at this and I hope I can post on a regular basis. My intent is to allow you to follow my work through Lighting 102...Strobist style.
